A “Cutting Edge” Dating Sim/Rogue-like Adventure Game: Boyfriend Dungeon

Boyfriend Dungeon is a rogue-style action/adventure game with a dating sim twist. The dateable characters also partner up with you as they transform into weapons that you can take into battle, giving swipe left and swipe right a whole new meaning!

I’m Palkuka with Qweerty Gamers reviewing Boyfriend Dungeon available now on Steam and your favorite console. Whether you’re new to gaming or a little more hardcore, there’s something for everyone here, especially if you’re excited to have an openly queer dating system that’s just the right level of wholesome and risqué, all depending on your choices and how you decide to act with your dates!

Boyfriend Dungeon begins as you go on a summer break and hang out with your cousin in his hometown. You soon find out it’s commonplace for monsters to inhabit local hotspots, all formed from negative emotions and unhealthy mental issues of the population. You also come to find out there are special people who can transform into weapons to fend against these foes, and people (like you) can handle them as their ‘Wielder’. The real adventure starts when you encounter your eligible dates/weapons and choose what you say and how you act with them in effort to advance your romance.

I am in L-O-V-E with the character variety in Boyfriend Dungeon. The eligible dates go from mild to wild and even include weirdos too, lol. The queer spectrum representation is massive compared to any game I’ve played before. Boyfriend Dungeon has almost the entire LGBTQIA+ community represented in the game which is a HUGE plus for this game and the future of gaming. Of course, on my first playthrough, I chose the super sexy, seductive, and mysterious Sunder as my main squeeze. He’s the guy I wanted to date most of the adventure. However, I did wander a bit and put the moves on Seven, Rowan, and Valeria too. The versatility in dating who you want and when you want is really lighthearted and entertaining. You’re allowed to really lay it on thick and romance the hell out of one character, or you can keep things casual and see who else is out there. There’s room for everyone.

For the hardcore gamers, Boyfriend Dungeon has a leveling system and leveling-up deepens the romantic connection between you and yours, which also reveals more story elements and scenarios. There’s also an inventory and crafting element to the game that includes making gifts for your dates and also developing secondary attacks to use in the dungeons. Speaking of the crafting element, for the new gamers or the ones whose primary objective is to look super cute, Boyfriend Dungeon has got you, boo. The crafting includes making new outfits for your character, but you can always just hit up the department stores or secret dungeon shops to make sure you’re always dressed to the nines and looking sharp.

Overall, Boyfriend Dungeon is a precious must-have gem for all gamers and your gaming library. And even if you don’t have a ‘gaming library’, you really need to play it for the fun factor, the cuteness, the sexiness, and its diverse cast of LGBTQIA+ characters, which is a huge step in the right direction for bringing queer characters into an enjoyable and memorable dating sim and action/adventure game. I was very pleased with the content and it looks like there are future updates adding more DLC as well. So thank you for reading my review of Boyfriend Dungeon. If you buy it on Steam, you can buy the deluxe pack which includes the really cute soundtrack that goes along with the game. It’s really fun pop music and some battle beats that go along with the dungeon fights as well. Please go straight to the website and buy a copy right now. https://www.boyfrienddungeon.com/
